About the Missoula Tenants Union

A tenant-led organization building collective power for renters in Missoula and Western Montana.

Our Story

The Missoula Tenants Union was founded by renters who were tired of facing housing instability alone. What started as neighbors coming together to share experiences grew into a formal union dedicated to building collective power.

MTU is not a service provider — we are a union. We believe that those closest to the problem are closest to the solution, and that justice does not trickle down — it grows up.

Unhoused Neighbors United (UNU)

MTU is a sibling organization to United Neighbors United (UNU), a statewide coalition working to fight unjust housing policy at the Montana state level. Together, we are pushing to repeal harmful legislation and build a broader movement for tenant rights across the state.
