- POWER. Missoula Tenants Union is a tenant-led organization that seeks to build collective power and believes that those closest to the problem are closest to the solution. We believe that justice does not trickle down – it grows up.
- TRANSFORMATION. Missoula Tenants Union wields our collective power to transform our world into one where housing is no longer a commodity to be fought for or over, but is instead community-centered and universally accessible.
- GROUP CULTURE. Missoula Tenants Union is committed to a culture of transparency, self-reflection, and growth both individually and collectively. We emphasize accountability and seek to minimize hierarchy in our organizing structures.

- JUSTICE. Missoula Tenants Union is committed to building a world that is racially, socially, & economically equitable. We seek to repair & resist the consequences of discriminatory housing practices, both current and historic. We respect the sovereignty of Indigenous nations and work to center Native people.

A: MTU is a growing group of tenants working to create collective power and fight for access to secure, affordable, and decent housing options in the Missoula area.
Q: What kind of stuff does MTU do?
We’ve got a lot going on! Here’s a list of just a few things we’re up to lately.
- Working towards tenants having a right to a free attorney in eviction cases
- Helping houseless folks prepare for and stay safe through the winter particularly at the Authorized Campsite
- Helping tenants clean their units when they have to move out so they’re more likely to get their security deposit back
- Canvassing to build solidarity with fellow tenants and learn about what they’re most concerned about
- Training folks on giving public comment at local legislative meetings like City Council
Q: Who can be a member?
A: Just about anyone in the Missoula area who isn’t a landlord or property manager can join the union! Homeowners, that includes you!
Q: How can I contact MTU?
A: The best way to reach us is via email at missoulatenantsunion@gmail.com.
Q: What do I have to do to become a member?
A: Send us an email with a request for our Membership Agreement, or come grab one at a General Membership Meeting! From there we have tiered monthly dues ranging from $10-$30 a month depending on your income (honor system-based). Tight on money? No problem! You can attend 2 MTU meetings a month instead of paying dues if you need!
Q: Can I support MTU if I'm not a member?
Totally! We can always use canvassing volunteers to help us better understand what issues fellow Missoula-area tenants are experiencing. We can also accept donations on Venmo at @missoulatenantsunion.
